BLOG

Hey Everybody,

I hope this finds you all well and healthy. Man it's gonna be a hot weekend!! Stay hydrated, stay cool, use sunscreen & move a bit, don’t just sit around; it’s called “active rest”.

Ok, this week let’s visit a bit about snacking. Y'all have all heard me say to "graze" during the day. Grazing during the day keeps your gas tank full, giving you energy for activity. It keeps your metabolism fired up, helping you burn fat. And, snacking during the day helps keep your hunger in check. That way you won’t attack the fridge when you get home or "over order" if you meet out for lunch or dinner.

Hey All,

I do hope you're enjoying your weekend!! I know it’s hot, but still … it just makes the upcoming fall that much better.

Ok, this week’s thought; I obviously think the world of all of you and also believe you are already a mover and a shaker in your prospective fields, but any time you can motivate yourself to reach a new level at work, in your hobby(s), in your goal setting/achieving, in your workouts - which is the main point of these blogs, right  ... is a good thing to do. An easy way to get that extra "amp" out of YOU is to try using a personal mantra or ethic statement. When someone says; "I'm getting better every day in every way", that obviously means something to them. My current 2 “personal ethic statements” that I really work hard to live up to each and every day is; “KEEP MOVING” & “EXCELLENCE IN ALL THAT I DO AND NOTHING LESS”. If I fail at some task, I dust off, make a new plan & “keep moving”. See how that works?

Put a statement together that sums up what you can use as a personal motivator. It has to be useful when you're bogged down at work, or not in the best frame of mind for a workout, or stuck in traffic, or stuck in line somewhere, or ... ANYWHERE you are. It should be personal enough that no matter how short it is it WILL mean something to you in ANY situation. It should motivate you to reach down deep inside of you and pull up and out whatever you need to finish the task at hand. It should also be short enough that you can repeat it often and in a flash when the moment hits you - just not some long dissertation or "Four score and seven years ... " kind of thing.

When I was fighting / competing, I used to say stuff like; “it’s all Kevin in '87”,

“it’s all mine in '89”, one of my favorites was ... “it ain’t you in '92”

And the last one, cuz I stopped fighting after nationals that year was ... “it’s all me in '93”. I'd say these when I was running or training in the gym or even at work when I wasn’t so excited to go run or workout. They were all related to the yearend fight which was nationals - it meant something to me!! It absolutely worked for me and I believe it'll work for you. So, make your own, make it personal, make it put goose bumps on you when you say it, make it short and to the point, and lastly ... say it a lot!!!

Ok, have a great weekend and I'll see you Thursday!

Hey All,

I hope this finds all of you well and healthy. It may be a hot weekend, but get out and get some vitamin D, move around & don’t just sit!!!

Ok, we’re still talking about eating. This week let’s talk about “dinner”.

Enjoy!!!

The “new” science is, it’s NOT how late you eat, but it’s what you eat late. You still want to make good choices and you still want to eat reasonably “early”, but don’t freak out if you have a late snack. Just make sure it’s reasonably healthy.

Hey All,

I hope this finds all of you well and healthy. I’m back well and healthy from Brownsville. A little sunburned from training outside, but a great training any way!! Wow, what a different world down there. Texas / Mexico blend of course, but all the “underlying” rules and etiquettes … “I” was the foreigner. But again … Padre was just 20 miles away!!!!

Ok, we’re still talking about eating. This week let’s talk about snacking and “lunch”.

Enjoy!!!

Hey All,

I hope this finds all of you well and healthy. Almost daily I get asked about food – what to eat – when to eat – what’s good – what’s bad …

This week I’m starting on a “multi-week” series on EATING. I’m not sure how long this series will be, but seeing as how “eating” should be taken seriously and is as much as 70-80% of your health & fitness, I’m gonna take as long as it takes (yes, I know … I did that on purpose). So, let me start with a few basics and then breakfast ……

Enjoy!!!

Hey All,

I hope this finds all of you well and healthy. Happy 239th Birthday to all of us!!! I hope your 4th Holiday is a good one. Be careful with your fireworks!!

I found this article a long time ago & thought it would make a good “blog” for all of us. Give it a try. Not that I think any one of you aren’t already successful … it’s just always good to keep your “knowledge tank” full & updated.
